When I got into medical school, I decided that orthopedics was a unique blend of anatomy and biomechanics that led to people getting better faster than anything I'd seen. While we may not save anyone's life in orthopedics, we change people lives for the better. The people in Asheville and the surrounding area are really the salt of the earth, and you enjoy taking care of them. They're just like the people that I grew up with in rural Missouri: they're hard-working, appreciative of what goes on, and when they get something done this well, you end up having people who say, "Thanks," and you end up with a relationship with these people that you can't get in a big city. I view my practice as being a big circle, and Mission really helps me be involved in that big circle. S o the initial part of the circle is to take good care of patients. When you take good care of patients, you'd like to make a bigger impact just like Mission does. We both want to make a bigger impact in just a single person we're seeing that day. You want the overall outcomes for health care in this area to be elevated. It really, the thing that Mission has done is emphasized a team approach to getting patients better, and that's been a wonderful emphasis to have.
