Here's a guide to repairing the most common issue with the Sony SL-HF950/ HF750 power supply. One thing I didn't mention is these are known to be weak power supplies and this is mainly down to the two bi-polar capacitors - they get even slightly bad and they will blow the two transistors and the ceramic fusible resistor. Make sure the replacements are the best quality you can find and check they have exceptionally low ESR - even a slight ESR will cause these power supplies to hiss.
