Located fifty miles west of the New Mexico border, Petrified Forest National Park is a must-visit national park in Arizona, and one of the most unexplored parks in the National Park system. Chock full of scenic views of the painted desert, Petrified Forest National Park also covers portions of modern history, preserving some of America's Route 66 history, and pre-modern history, with petroglyphs at Puerco Pueblo and Newspaper rock. If all of this wasn't inspiring enough to visit, the park also contains large fossil deposits from the Triassic period, such as the petrified forest, where the park gets its name. While petrified wood can now be broken down into hand sized chunks, visitors are advised to keep the rocks where they lie because of the "curse" that exists in taking them; even if you don't believe in curses, one should exercise LNT principles. From top to bottom, the park is a great spot to visit, and here are my top seven recommendations. "Nearby" Hikes - Ooh Ahh Point, Grand Canyon: • Ooh Ahh Point - spectacular views of the G...
