PRESS RELEASE Charitable Society Founded in Kargil in Memory of Former Member of Parliament Ghulam Hassan Khan ‘Mindok-e-Chaqbu’, a Collection of Folksongs by State Awardee Master Hussain Silmoo, Launched Kargil, October 30, 2025: A charitable society titled Hassan Khan Charitable Society, established in the cherished memory of Late Ghulam Hassan Khan, former Member of Parliament (MP) from Ladakh, was formally launched today at the SMM Auditorium Hall, Kargil. The society is envisioned as a platform to keep alive the values, vision, and ideals of Late Hassan Khan—an illustrious leader remembered for his integrity, humility, and lifelong dedication to public service. The newly established society will focus on education, healthcare, and cultural preservation, reflecting the areas closest to the late leader’s heart. It seeks to translate his guiding principles into action by supporting students, empowering communities, and preserving Ladakh’s cultural identity. The event commenced with a soulful recitation from the Holy Quran by Haji Mohammad Ali, a long-time associate and admirer of Late Hassan Khan Sahab. Former CEC, LAHDC Kargil, and son of the late leader, Mr. Feroz Ahmed Khan, welcomed the guests with the traditional khatak and delivered the welcome address, expressing gratitude to all dignitaries and participants for joining the occasion to honour his father’s legacy. The function was graced by the Hon’ble Chairman/CEC, LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohammad Jaffer Akhoon, as the Chief Guest. The gathering also included Hon’ble Executive Councillors Syed Mujtaba, Kacho Mohammad Feroz, and Er. Punchok Tashi, Hon’ble Member of Parliament Ladakh Haji Haneefa Jan, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil Imteeaz Kacho, State Awardee and prominent citizen Kacho Asfandyar Khan, former Executive Councillors Syed Kazim Sabiri and Syed Abass Razvi, sitting Hon’ble Councillors of LAHDC Kargil, district officers, and senior citizens from across Silmo, Lalung, Chulichan, Sharchey, Garkone, Darchiks, and other parts of the district. In his address, Hon’ble Chairman/CEC Dr. Mohammad Jaffer Akhoon described Late Hassan Khan Sahab as “a man of rare integrity, upright character, and deep compassion for his people.” He congratulated the founding members of the society for institutionalizing his values through this initiative, noting that “true remembrance lies in carrying forward the noble ideals of such leaders through service to society.” Dr. Akhoon further remarked that the educational reforms initiated during the tenure of former CEC Feroz Ahmed Khan—son of Late Hassan Khan—were in line with his father’s vision and are being actively continued by the present LAHDC Kargil. He also suggested that a school be renamed after Late Hassan Khan Sahab as a lasting tribute to his contribution in the field of education. A documentary film depicting the life, struggles, achievements, and principles of Late Hassan Khan was screened in two parts, offering a heartfelt reflection on his journey as a leader and humanitarian. During the proceedings, Hon’ble Executive Councillor Kacho Mohammad Feroz remarked that Hassan Khan Sahab had inspired an entire generation of Ladakhis to serve society with honesty and commitment. Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil Imteeaz Kacho recalled him as “an affectionate elder who constantly reminded the youth to uphold integrity and truthfulness.” Hon’ble Member of Parliament Haji Haneefa Jan commended the Khan family for taking forward the legacy of Late Hassan Khan by transforming his vision into a living institution that will continue to serve the people of Ladakh. State Awardee and retired Commissioner Kacho Asfandyar Khan shared fond memories of his long association with Late Hassan Khan, describing him as “a man who led with wisdom and guided with kindness.” The event also featured the launch of a book titled ‘Mindok-e-Chaqbu’, a collection of Ladakhi folksongs authored by State Awardee Master Mohammad Hussain Silmoo. The book was introduced by Mr. Gulzar Hussain Silmoo, who briefly explained its cultural and literary significance in preserving Ladakh’s rich oral traditions. As part of the ceremony, student toppers of Class 10th and Class 12th from various schools of Kargil district were felicitated by the dignitaries. The gesture symbolized the society’s commitment to nurturing academic excellence and empowering youth—core values that defined the late leader’s vision for Ladakh’s future. Dr. Ehsan, Founding Chairman of the Hassan Khan Charitable Society, elaborated on the vision and mission of the organization, emphasizing that the society aims to carry forward the thoughts and principles of Late Hassan Khan Sahab by creating opportunities for education, ensuring access to basic healthcare, and safeguarding the cultural roots of the region.
