On Monday, April 27th, The Impact Movement hosted a conversation with Rev. Dr. Ray Hammond, M.D., M.A., Rev. Dr. Nicole Massie Martin, and Bishop Walter F. Harvey, about how we can keep the faith during this pandemic. Read their bios below: Rev. Dr. Ray Hammond, M.D., M.A. Pastor Ray Hammond was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, the eldest son of a Baptist preacher and a schoolteacher. He was educated in the public schools of Philadelphia and went on to graduate from Harvard College and Harvard Medical School. He completed his surgical residency at the New England Deaconess Hospital (Boston, MA) and joined the Emergency Medicine staff at the Cape Cod Hospital (Hyannis, MA). Pastor Hammond accepted the call to the preaching ministry in 1976 and completed his Master of Arts degree in the Study of Religion (Christian and Medical Ethics) at Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Sciences in 1982. In 1988 he was called to be the founder and pastor of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Boston. Pastor Hammond has a long history of involvement with youth and community activities. He continues to work in local and district youth activities in the AME Church. He is the proud husband of the Rev. Dr. Gloria White-Hammond (a pediatrician and co-pastor to whom he has been happily married since 1973); the blessed father of two daughters, Mariama and Adiya, and a son-in-law, Turahn Dorsey; and the proud grandfather of Ella. He counts as his greatest blessing the love of a God who has made it possible for him to accomplish and receive more than he could have ever thought or imagined. Rev. Dr. Nicole Massie Martin Reverend Doctor Nicole Massie Martin was born and educated in Baltimore, Maryland. She graduated magna cum laude from Vanderbilt University with a triple major in Human and Organizational Development, Educational Studies, and French. Dr. Martin received her Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary where she was the recipient of the Jones Prize in Music and the Swink Prize in Preaching. She earned a Doctor of Ministry at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary with an emphasis on African American Redemptive Leadership. Dr. Martin is the Director of US Ministry at American Bible Society where she oversees scripture engagement work across the nation. She also serves as the Assistant Professor of Ministry and Leadership Development at Gordon-Conwell in Charlotte. She is active in ministry at Kingdom Fellowship AME Church in Maryland and formerly served as the Executive Minister at The Park Church in Charlotte, NC. Dr. Martin is married to her best friend, Dr. Mark Martin, and they have two beautiful daughters, Addison and Josephine. Above all, she has a passion for God, a contagious excitement for the Gospel, and an insatiable desire that God be glorified in her life and in the world. Bishop Walter F. Harvey Walter F. Harvey is the former Senior Pastor of Parklawn Assembly of God in Milwaukee, WI. He led a healthy succession of leadership with the church after 28 years as the Lead Pastor. He is a proud son of the city of Milwaukee and is the Chief Apostle and Presiding Bishop of the Outpouring Ministry Network Group, and the founder of the Milwaukee Declaration Pastors Group (Both of these organizations are committed to uniting pastors and churches around issues of racial disparities, reconciliation, school adoption, community engagement and economic development.) He is a graduate of Marquette University; an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God; a published author and a former producer host of the Emmy award-winning Milwaukee, WI PBS television show Black Nouveau. Bishop Walter Harvey is the husband of Judy for 35 years, father of Nicholas and grandfather of Autumn.
