VELA 408 complements the existing lineup of the compact VELA FS 407 and the fullsize VELA FS 409 floorstanding speakers. VELA FS 408 features a 2½-way concept in a vented cabinet with two 180 mm AS-XR woofers and a JET5 tweeter. ELAC's Vela range was made to replace the very successful Line 400 series which is not an easy task by any means. But by using the acoustic technology from the Line 400 series and putting it into a brand new sophisticated design, the Vela range has done just that. From the new waveguide which minimizes baffle reflections, to the specially shaped baffle itself and the angling of the cabinet, all aspects improve the definition of sound. Features... Crystal membrane driver The eye-catching surface of the crystal membrane is more than just an attractive design feature. The drivers employ the crystal membrane, and their design is based on ELAC’s Aluminum-Sandwich Technology. By resembling the surface of a large crystal, the aluminum-foil stamping stiffens the aluminum dome, diminishing resonances and minimizing coloration, while improving power handling and dynamics. ELAC Line Series Crystal Membrane Driver JET 5 tweeter The ELAC JET tweeter is one of the most legendary tweeters in the industry and has won international praise with its transparent and effortless sound image. Due to many additional design changes, like an improved new neodymium magnet system, even higher efficiency, higher sound pressure levels and frequency response up to 50 kHz was achieved. ELAC Line BS 243 The core of the JET tweeter is the folded foil membrane. The fold width is only 0.84 mm and the folding and fixing of the membrane is still executed by hand. Due to continuous improvement, the JET 5 tweeter creates an effortless, airy and resonance-free image up to 50,000 Hz. Down-firing port For a more flexible speaker placement and to minimize ventilation noise, the bass reflex port is directed to the floor, exiting the bottom of the speaker cabinet in a down-firing configuration.
