29th September- Day 13 Mud-Dadjug Hike-in Campground to Dunkeld Township Distance: 14.8km It took as just over 6 and a half hours to complete this section. Today was our last day on trail, with many mixed emotions - very excited to get into Dunkeld, the finish line, as well as having a good hot meal - but at the same time, I was pretty sad the adventure was coming to an end - it was the biggest and most epic hike I’ve ever completed. It was another amazing day on the trail with a mix of hiking terrain, forest, rocky out crops, mountain summit and grass lands to finish off. The footpad was very distinct and easy to follow, the trail was also well signposted. There was a mix of footpad from dirt to clay, rocky slabs, steel walkways and stairs, and rock stairs which help you get to the summit of Mt Sturgeon which is approximately 582 metres high, the last summit of the GPT - a short side track to Piccaninny along the way is well worth the hike as your rewarded with beautiful views. Water - I filled up my water bottles at camp, the water tanks were full, carrying 2 litres - I recommend filtering your water to always be on the safe side. There was also a serviced water tank along the way near the Piccaninny trail head car park. Highlights for me were the wildflowers in bloom, the rocky outcrops and trail itself, it was fun to hike and of course amazing views along the way of the Grampians Mountain Range as well as farmlands and fields in the distance. It was a long day but very rewarding - the toughest section was Mt Sturgeon summit, lots of stairs and gets the heart going. We hung around the summit for a while, reflecting on the hike and what we’d near completed - it was pretty cool. We then made our way down to Dunkeld, a beautiful little town, with a handful of shops, including a coupe of places to grab a bite to eat. We had a walk around and waited for our lift back to Halls Gap, worth checking out - some nice old properties around the township. Well, that’s it for the GPT, thanks for following this short series of YouTube videos, I hope they help in planning and preparing for this hike if you intend doing any or all of it yourself. Thanks again for watching and supporting the channel. If you have any comments or questions, please leave them in the comment section below and I’ll answer them as best possible. Until next time, happy hiking – bye for now. #hiking #hike #thruhike2022 #thruhike #lanshan2pro #montbell #sawyer #patagonia #grampians
