Located in the county of Devon, and around 12 miles southwest of Exeter, is the town of Bovey Tracey. Geographically, Bovey Tracey is situated at the eastern fringe of Dartmoor National Park, with the River Bovey, a tributary of the River Teign, running through the town centre. The 'Tracey' element of the name comes from the Norman de Tracey family, who were lords of the manor here after the Norman Conquest. At the eastern end of the town centre is the Parish Church of St Peter, St Paul and St Thomas of Canterbury. This dates primarily from the 14th and 15th centuries due to a fire which destroyed much of its Norman predecessor. The church is Grade I listed. In 1259 a market charter was granted to Bovey Tracey. One of its main historic industries was pottery. This was established here from the mid-18th century, peaking in the Victorian era, but ultimately declining in the 20th century. In 1866 a railway station opened in Bovey Tracey. This formed part of a branch line which connected Moretonhampstead to Newton Abbot on the Great Western Main Line. The station closed to passengers in 1959, and to goods in 1970. Today, public transport to Bovey Tracey consists of direct buses from Exeter, Newton Abbot and various other nearby locations. 👇 SUBSCRIBE TO 4K EXPLORER FOR NEW VIDEOS EVERY WEEK 👇 https://www.youtube.com/4KExplorer?su...
