Tying a Lifelike & Deadly Grannom Caddis – Mojo Yarn, CDC & Hare Magic!

Today, I’m excited to share a pattern that’s both lifelike and deadly effective – the Grannom Caddis CDC Dry Fly! This fly is a must-have for spring trout fishing, offering natural movement and perfect buoyancy. To achieve a realistic and durable body, I’m using Mojo Yarn (you can wax it if you like ), while the thorax and legs come to life with hare guard fur. And for that essential soft-wing profile? Nothing beats CDC feathers! My tying style is super simple and economical. For a size #14 hook, I use only two CDC feathers. I prefer not to overdress the fly. Despite being a dry fly, when it gets wet, this model is highly effective when fished as a swimming adult. You can use the Leisenring Lift technique with maximum efficiency. The body is made of yarn (I usually use dubbing, but this time I tied it with Mojo Yarn because I find it super simple to use. If you wax it, the fly will float even better). The legs are made from guard hare fur, kinked under the wing. That's it!
