The “Shallow” scene is pivotal to the story of “A Star Is Born”. The lyrics basically tells the story of famed country singer Jackson (Bradley Cooper) and aspiring singer-songwriter Ally (Lady Gaga). Jackson opens the song “Is there somethin’ else you’re searching for?” questions Ally’s ambitions and encourages her to follow her dreams. “I’m Fallin’” has the double meaning of Jackson falling in love with Ally, and his hedonistic lifestyle will eventually be his downfall. Enters Ally, “Ain’t it hard keeping it so hardcore?” as she sees through his personal struggle. “I’m off the deep end, watch as I dive in…” suggests the hope, the passion can be fulfilled but it comes with living life recklessly. Sadly they are crossing path in opposite directions. Ally is on the brink of superstardom and Jackson is on the brink of his downfall. “Far from shallow” foreshadows the heart-breaking ending for the two main characters.
