Helicopter over site of attack - tilts to damaged vehicles STORYLINE Iraqi insurgents operating in the so-called Sunni triangle on Wednesday hit several US military convoys passing through the area. In Ramadi, 80 kilometres west of Baghdad, a roadside bomb went off hitting an Army Humvee and Iraqi taxi driving close to it. The taxi driver was injured while US casualties were unknown. A small crowd of locals assembled at the site, clutching the pieces fallen from the damaged Humvee, including a map and a US flag shoulder patch. Earlier on Wednesday, another improvised explosive device went off in Fallujah, slightly damaging a Abrams M1 battle tank and another Humvee. Increasingly sophisticated, the roadside bombs have emerged as a prime threat to US forces stationed in Iraq. Six US soldiers were killed this week in different parts of the country as their vehicles were hit. Meanwhile, in Baghdad, US patrols were also targeted on Wednesday. An Improvised Explosive Device exploded in the centre of the capital, causing damage to a US convoy. One US soldier, two Iraqi children and one Iraqi man were injured in the incident, according to US officials. The IED was placed in a disused electricity transformer.
