------------------------------------------------ Round trip for 1390 yen! Okinawa and Ie Island are the perfect choice for a first-time visit to a remote island, and it was the best experience of my life! [Travel, Island trips, Sightseeing, Stunning views, Touchū] ------------------------------------------------ This time, I’m bringing you a journey to Ie Island, one of the northern Okinawa remote islands that you should visit at least once in your life! It’s a hidden gem that very few people visit, making it a perfect adult getaway! Ie Island is located about 30 minutes by ferry from Motobu Port in northern Okinawa. The island is about 22 kilometers in circumference, with a population of about 4,000 (as of December 2023). The symbol of Ie Island is "Gusukuyama" (Castle Mountain), commonly known as "Ie Island Touchū." It’s a 172-meter-high rock mountain with a unique geological structure that is rare even globally. You can climb to the summit in just a few minutes, and the panoramic 360-degree view is breathtaking. On the island, there’s also a beautiful sea called "Waji" and cliffs over 60 meters high. You can enjoy different views depending on the tide and the sky’s color. The "Lily Field Park," where 85 types of lilies bloom, hosts the "Lily Festival" every April, attracting many tourists. Additionally, you can enjoy the beautiful white sandy beaches and the stunning gradient blue sea while riding a horse on the island. Ie Island’s history is deeply significant. In April 1945, during the early stages of the Battle of Okinawa, a fierce battle known as the "Six-Day Battle" took place, resulting in many precious lives lost. Afterward, about 35% of the island’s land was occupied by U.S. military bases. In 1961, the "Ie Island Land Protection Association" was formed, showing the strong will of the island’s people for land return. Ie Island is famous for its local produce, especially the "Ie Island Beef," which is a must-try. The sirloin steak is exceptional. The island is also known for its local specialties, such as peanut sweets and island garlic. To reach Ie Island, take a ferry from Motobu Port in northern Okinawa, which takes about 30 minutes. If you want to bring a car or motorcycle on the ferry, a reservation is required, and you can book it up to two months in advance. On the island, you can rent a car or a bicycle, but I recommend renting a car. Let’s enjoy this perfect Okinawa remote island trip, which is ideal for beginners!
