Aman Goel, Co Founder and CEO, Cogno AI talks about his journey, how his experiences shaped him up to be what he is today. He believes that rather than flouting out advice, one learns better lookin at the nuances of someone’s experiences. Aman started off with the same dream, looking for a conventional high paying Silicon Valley job, which is what most graduates hope to go for. He soon realized his role was essentially ineffective, since he as an individual was simply lost among a sea of hundreds of employees and wasn’t contributing enough to the company. That is when he realized his dream of starting his own company. Having landed a comfortable enough PPO, he had his remnant 4th year to explore things as they came. Aman took up technology venture creation, marketing for entrepreneurs. He talks about how the basis of any startup is to understand a customer’s needs, to have a deep rooted understanding of the problem statement itself. His idea revolved around how most of our older generation isn’t technologically competent enough, and hence face a lot of challenges when it comes to even the most basic of needs, booking a flight or ordering things online for which they end up reaching out to us instead. Aman worked off of this idea, ventured out to build a business model that functioned on this and with a lot of effort was finally able to acquire the support of a public sector bank. In the next section of the talk, he focused on the highs and lows of his journey and why it is important to stay persistent. He faced failure, due to lack of a clear business model, a lack of focus and striving to achieve too many things at once. There was a lack of experience, but there was potential for plenty. Aman could see that potential being validated by the fact that four large enterprises were willing to pay. He draws up a stark contrast between how his co-founder quit but he persisted, willing to go the extra mile and put in efforts. The idea was to be able to work as with his next partner, he clearly defined the fields of work they’d be handling, combining their skill sets rather than distracted efforts. He talks about further milestones that he and his team achieved, including acquiring more large institutions and getting acquired as an independent subsidiary. He concludes the talk with a few key learning points he’d like to leave to the audience, which are persistence, focus, leveraging your network, execution playing a vital role, and how chasing customers is far more beneficial than chasing investors. Reduce the amount of things you work on and rather focus on the few things that you do take up, believe in your business. Aman is the co-founder and CEO of Cogno AI, a leading Conversational AI Startup which was acquired by Exotel. Aman graduated from IIT Bombay, and pursued his B. Tech in Computer Science and Engineering, and started Cogno right after college along with his co-founder Harshita. Together, they've taken Cogno to millions of dollars in revenues and a 150+ member team.
