Learn what a Clear status means on a background check and when results still appear Clear based on your adjudication rules. Watch for a quick guide. A Clear report status means the background check is complete and the searches you ordered did not return any records. It can also mean the searches returned records that you’ve indicated do not require further review for the role. Using adjudication tools like Assess or Positive Adjudication Matrix, you may decide that certain records—for example, a misdemeanor over ten years old for a specific position—don’t need review. In those cases, the report may still show as Clear even if such information appears. In short, you’ll see Clear when: 1) no records are returned, or 2) records returned are ones you’ve flagged as not requiring further review.
