[Anchor Lead] Many adults must treasure their younger years when they were immersed in comic books or cartoons. But today's children have even more fascinating ways to play. As virtual and augmented reality technologies become more commonplace, theme parks providing more realistic experiences are opening up in Korea. [Pkg] A child carries around a smartphone to capture the animals that appear on the screen to build an animal farm. An airplane drawn on a piece of paper is seen flying on the tablet PC screen. These are playthings that utilize augmented reality technology. [Soundbite] Kim Ju-han(Seoul Resident) : "I catch animals and keep them in a farm." This is a theme park where visitors can experience virtual reality. They wear VR devices and take off on a rollercoaster ride. They bungee-jump from a tall tree in the jungle...and ride a boat right next to the Jurassic period dinosaurs. [Soundbite] Park Seong-jun(CEO, VR Theme Park) : "I think virtual reality will become a new recreational culture since people can have various experiences from the age of dinosaurs to the age of robots all in one place." On this theater stage holographic actors put on a musical production. They even perform special effects by using augmented reality. Unlike conventional theme parks that require vast spaces and huge amounts of capital, these VR or AR theme parks provide a wide array of activities within small spaces. The global market for such futuristic playgrounds is expected to grow more than 20 times within the next four years from the current 12 trillion won.
