Today, we will be talking about Kindle vs. Paperback and which one I think is better. This is an ongoing debate in the reading community, and with the rise in the popularity of Kindles, I thought I would give my two cents on the subject. Many people believe Kindles are "just another screen and distraction" and that they read books to get away from the screens, but I would disagree with this notion. A Kindle screen is not like your phone, TV, or laptop. It is more like a piece of paper than a color screen, and it has many benefits that regular books cannot provide. The feature I love most about my Kindle is the dark mode. It allows you to read easily in the dark, which is a game changer for airplanes, trains, car rides, or just lying in bed before sleeping. I also love the ability to change font sizes on the fly, which can help with books that you can only find in mass-market format. I also love the word-wise functionality, where you can instantly look up definitions for words, and see what others have highlighted. And speaking of highlights, anything that you mark down while reading can instantly be uploaded to Goodreads. Finally, the ability to travel with a tiny device that holds hundreds of books on it instead of lugging around tons of heavy physical copies is a game changer for traveling. If you're on the fence about picking up a Kindle, go ahead and fire it. I promise you, you won't regret it. With all that being said though, I still think nothing beats a good old-fashioned paperback. There is something about flipping through the pages that fills me with joy every time. I love seeing the physical size of the book shrink as you progress through it, and I don't think anything will ever top that tactile experience. I personally use both formats, and I think they both have their uses. If you do end up picking one up, let me know what you think! If you also already have one, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Let me know down below which you enjoy the most, and let us continue this debate!
