Probably my favorite Boston song for sure but also one my favorite songs overall! I believe that it really demonstrates the diversity and creativeness of Boston, Tom Scholz (founder and engineering genius), Brad Delp (Lead singer - RIP), John Boylan, Sib Hashian (Drummer and another RIP) and others who contributed to this band in a huge way. The beginning of this song (Foreplay) is a beautifully controlled chaotic cacophony of tight, excellent drum work (of course), brilliant, creative keyboards, incredible, strong bass line and dazzling guitar! It's just an amazing piece of music and it's hard to believe it was written nearly 50 fricken years ago at the time of this writing! Long Time, the second part of the song opens with flaring cymbals going to quite mode with the keyboards playing a slow, almost "church like" theme and then the Bass drum starts pulsing on a strong 4/4 beat (awesome transition) and the song "really kicks it into gear" from there with an awesome bass line, impressive vocals and harmonies, blistering guitar and keyboard work and some really good, solid, tight drum work. I love that transition beginning with the bass drum pulse! "Foreplay/Long Time" is the third song on Boston's debut album entitled "Boston" which was released on August 25, 1976, by Epic Records. It was the most successful debut album for years and is still in the top 3 of all time I believe. The song itself was released as a single on January 7, 1977. It's about a guy chasing his dreams and moving on while still feeling a connection to someone dear to him that he left behind.
