Life is not defined only by the paths we choose but also by the ones we don’t. In this deeply reflective talk, Minal Sanghavi an otherwise “average” student by her own admission shares the story of her journey through education, career, and self-discovery, and the lessons she learned along the way. From early academic struggles and unexpected successes to professional highs, setbacks, and health challenges, this talk explores how life unfolds in ways we rarely plan for. Minal traces her journey from school to Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, from missed dreams to life-changing experiences at Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, and from a fast-paced consulting career to rediscovering balance through wellness, spirituality, and community. Along the way, she reflects on how rejection, redirection, and resilience shaped her far more than success ever did. Distilling her experiences into four core learnings building strong foundations, always doing one’s best, recognizing that no one succeeds alone, and putting wellness first she offers practical wisdom for navigating an increasingly complex and stressful world. She concludes with a powerful metaphor of a personal “life dashboard,” encouraging the audience to regularly check their purpose, pace, progress, resources, and well-being. This talk is a reminder that life is rarely extraordinary all the time and that’s okay. What matters is staying aligned with your purpose, caring for yourself, and trusting that even the roads not taken have something to teach us. Minal Shanghavi is an Indian entrepreneur and investor, based in Kolkata, with a strong focus on service-startups and supporting new ventures. He is the Founder of the company Destacto and is active in founding, backing and mentoring startups in the services sector. A graduate of the prestigious Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A), Minal blends strong business education with hands-on experience in founding and investing. With over 3,000 followers on LinkedIn, Minal shares his thoughts on entrepreneurship, business strategy, technology transfer, and socio-economic development; he regularly posts commentary on topics such as innovation in public institutions and tourism’s role in growth. Minal’s writing and commentary suggest that he takes a broad strategic view—emphasising how startups can succeed, how institutions can scale research and tech-transfer, and how service‐oriented ventures can drive inclusion and growth.
