I have presented videos over the last few days to show how to get your PI2 up and running with Raspbian, Using Noobs or not and also how to load up Node-Red a great tool for Internet of Things based solutions but equally at home for local GPIO jobs too. Programmed with drag and drop GUI rather than text based coding, , so simple in fact that you can get a few basic GPIO things up and running without having to write any code, just simple drag and drop and a little config To quote the site http://nodered.org/ "Node-RED A visual tool for wiring the Internet of Things. Node-RED is a tool for wiring together hardware devices, APIs and online services in new and interesting ways." So the first part of this video (I split it to make viewing easier) I will show you my first app, controlling two servos (One positional and one rotationsl), an LED in PWM, reading a Switch (Could as easily be a motion sensor) and reading an Analogue 10 bit value from a POT, oh and some of that through the use of an Arduino connected to the PI USB. On my first program I also included MQTT integration but as I want to keep things relativly simple so I wont show you that part yet. In this second part of the video I will show you how construct the program using node red to control an LED from the PI including PWM so it works as a dimmer, read in a switch and send an email when the switch state changes, again all without coding i will then go on to show you how to hook the PI to an Arduino using Firmata to leverage its awsome support for Servo control and Analogue to Digital conversion. again, with NO CODE. cool stuff The nice thing about this is that it will include a WEB based user interface for the final solution too that will work on most browsers and as I will show you also on several platforms including the PI itself, a PC Browser and an Android smart phone. The cool thing is they all stay in sync with each other, change a control on one browser and the rest reflect it almost instantly. Thats where I will leave it on this one as I want this video to be aimed at beginners to coding and folks new to Node-Red (As I am :) ) so you can learn along with me. I will be keeping one step ahead of my videos and share everything as I go so they may be a bit longer than I am trying to keep them (Like this one exceeding an hour between the two parts) here are a few links to usefull posts to help you learn and re-produce what I show How to install Node-Red • RPI 2 - Node-Red quick Install, ready for ...
