Sketchbook Recreate Project: Surreal and Playful

In this video, I want to recreate the sketch I made with the kids when I was at home. I was captivated by the playfulness of the image—the way the fish are swimming in the air around the flower. There’s something very childlike about it. It reminds me of when we imagined swimming deep in the ocean or leaping across canyons. This picture brings back that world we had free access to when we were little, and which we forgot as we grew up. I try to return to it from time to time, to find inspiration—and that’s what I did with this painting too. Now, editing the video afterwards, I saw that I could have been much, much bolder. I should have started with the exercises from last week's video, and only then begun this painting. But I was so excited to recreate it that I skipped the warm-up practice. But that’s okay, because I can always go back and do it. Now this video will stay on my channel as a reminder not to forget to play with my art supplies. A quote from Magda Szabó comes to mind: "...play is the only serious thing in life, the only thing that isn’t just play, that gives us strength, that is real." With that thought, I’ll end this post.
