Week 15 - Thursday, May 30, 1985 Attendance: 3,059, TV: ESPN Quarterback Bob Gagliano completed 33 of 47 passes for 352 yards and two touchdowns Thursday night to lead the Denver Gold to a 27-20 United States Football League victory over the Los Angeles Express. The game, the Express' final of the season at the Coliseum, was played before 3,059, the smallest crowd in USFL history. Gagliano teamed with receiver Gil Stegall for two of Denver's touchdowns. Stegall caught 16 passes in the game to set a new USFL mark for most receptions in a single game, breaking the record of 15 set by Richard Johnson of the Houston Gamblers last year. After the Express took a 3-0 lead on a 34-yard field goal by Tony Zendejas, Gagliano threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Stegall to give Denver a 7-3 lead with 43 seconds left in the first quarter. The Express then drove 67 yards for their first touchdown and a 10-7 advantage as Frank Suerer hit David Hersey for a 5-yard scoring pass with 10:57 left in the first half. Denver regained the lead with eight seconds left in the first half when running back Bill Johnson scored on a 1-yard plunge. Source: http://www.oursportscentral.com/usfl
