The thing that distinguishes StoryLife Church from most churches is the fact that we are obsessed with letting God write our narrative. What I mean by that is a church can do well teaching theology and good theology is vital, it's crucial to having the good faith. A church can develop community well. You can have a lot of areas to be plugged in and a lot of relationships that are cultivated and that is as important as well. Most churches can thrive in some of those areas but it's few and far between that a church really focuses in and hones in on your purpose and that's what we were meant to do. We, as a church, were meant to reveal to you your purpose because your purpose is God's story for your life. What's the next page say? What's the next page say? What's the next page say? And if you flow according to that then the highs are going to be high and the lows are going to be high because everything is going to have joy, everything's going to have peace. Even in long suffering you're going to do so knowing that you're in the purpose and plan of God. That's the best possible life to live and at our church, the church that God's called me to pastor, it is my responsibility, yes to teach you good theology, yes to have community but more than anything else, it's my responsibility to continually tell you God's story about your life. What it says in here, what it says through prayer, what it says prophetically about you. I am going to remind you that you have a story that God wrote. You are written in the books, the volumes of eternity and we must open those scrolls, read them and digest them and manifest them in the earth. You are a living narrative and you are influenced by whatever narrative you believe. I'll never forget when I was younger and I was going to Alcoholics Anonymous before we could start saying everything we had to say, "Hi, I'm so and so," in my case, "Hi, I'm Brad and I'm an alcoholic." And all the stories that were said were said from that place. All the stories that were told, "Hi, I'm so and so and I'm an alcoholic and let me tell you the story about how alcohol ruined my marriage," "let me tell you the story about how alcohol led me to this place," "let me tell you . . . ." They were all rooted in this story that it started with "Hi, I'm an alcoholic." It started with an identity that led into a narrative and I realized at that moment – wait a minute, I'm more than an alcoholic, I'm more than a drug addict, I'm more than what my sexuality says I am, I'm more than what my education says I am, I am nothing more and nothing less than what God says I am. So let me discover what that is and when I begin to get into the Book and I began to understand my role in God's story, my life became clearer, my life became better and God downloads and reveals things both through the revelation of His Word and through prophetic insight. I think that's why I exist. I exist to help you follow the path that I've walked down. I exist to show you to be a living embodiment of what it's like when you hand yourself over to God who cares, a God who is invested, a God who has written about you and is waiting for you to look at the right book. Not the book of your education, not the book of our parents, not the book of your history but is waiting for you to crack open what He says about you. So that's what we're fundamentally about. It's His story, your life. That's the best way to live. That's what church should be and that's what StoryLife is.
