So what's the difference between leadership and management? And why does it matter? Hi, welcome to the Let's Talk Talent channel where we discuss the world of HR and talent management. We're here to help you unlock the potential in your people. So what's the difference between leadership and management? And why does it matter? Well, leaders are born. They're not just made. And anybody can be a leader in your organisation, but we tend to think about leaders as the CEO and their direct reports. But leadership is much more about setting direction, vision, purpose, the join-up between purpose and passion. Leaders are the people that you really want to follow over the hill. That ultimately when things get tough, you think they've got your back. They are caring, they're empathetic. They're people that you really think about when you go to sleep at night and think "I really loved working for that person". A manager, while still can be inspiring, is much more about operations, about how they get things done. They're the join-up between people management, process management, and project management. A leader sets direction, a manager ultimately optimises it. And why it matters is because, at the end of the day, organisations are ecosystems, they ebb and flow and people are your biggest asset. We need a combination of leaders and managers, we need the doers as well as the inspirational people that we follow. So think about how you develop your leaders and your managers, because there may be different ways of doing that. One size doesn't fit all. And how many leaders do you need versus how many managers do you want? And do you need to grow managers? Or actually can you have much more autonomous ecosystems? So that's why leadership and management is important, because people are your biggest assets. So who doesn't want to have a high performing organisation where people know what's expected of them and how they can give of their best?
