Locology was created to shatter those stereotypes in order to show that each person with locs is an individual unto his or her self, and should be treated and viewed as such. Making assumptions about a person's with locs character, spirituality, intelligence or any other societal demographic is not only wrong...it is damaging to the person with locs as well as to the individual assuming the stereotypes and stigmas are true to form. We are more than the depictions the media portrays of people with locs. Many of us are scholars and doctors and business owners, good parents and political activist and helpful neighbors. We are multifaceted individuals with dynamic, overlapping ideas and existences...and the world needs to know it.
