High speed chase of Amtrak Train 4

We are on Old Highway 85 between Levy and Colmor, New Mexico, where we give chase to Amtrak Train 4, the Southwest Chief to Chicago Union Station. Train 4 runs at speeds of up to 79MPH in the prairie between Las Vegas, NM and the next station at Raton. Luckily, Route 85, which is essentially the frontage road for I-25, has little traffic and parallels the tracks all the way up to Springer. At the 0:00 mark, we start on the straightaway between Levy and Colmor. At the 6:15 mark, we see the train as it blows for Chico Road and Maxwell Avenue in Maxwell. From there, the tracks crisscross the Interstate a few times and also leave the Interstate for a spell before getting into Raton. At the 7:02 mark, we see the train as it blasts out of Raton Station and charges hard for the grade up Raton Pass. Both engines are in Notch 8 for this. I can only imagine what this would have sounded like back in the Santa Fe days when F-Units were used. At the 7:43 mark, the train has dropped down grade towards Trinidad, Colorado, and is blowing for Railroad Avenue in Starkville, Colorado, which is on the outskirts of Trinidad. At the 9:45 mark, we see the train as it pulls into the station at Trinidad. At the 10:38 mark, we see the train as it departs from Trinidad. At this point, the light was more or less gone, so the decision was made to turn back and head back towards Albuquerque. Train 4 consists of Genesis P42DC's 199 and 45 with a nine car consist (Viewliner baggage car and eight Superliners). Enjoy the chase as we go from New Mexico to Colorado.
