Ballynahinch History , Historic Linen Industry, Drumaness Mill The Linen Industry was a money spinner in Co. Down for centuries. Women were a large part of the workforce, and were valued for their skills. In the 1700s activity was mostly at farm and domestic level. In the 1800s production moved to factory settings, like Drumaness. By the 1950s the local industry was almost wiped out, by competition from new synthetic fibres, and cheaper foreign labour. 00:00:00 - Introduction 00:03:30 - Historical Linen Industry 00:04:47 - Linen Production in the 1700’s.
