Distance: About 24 km (15 miles). However, we made it longer, around 28 km in the end. The distance varies depending on which guidebook or app you use! Difficulty: Moderate to Hard—This is considered one of the tougher stages because of the constant uphill climbs. Terrain: Mix of rural roads, forest tracks, and small villages, with a lot of hilly countryside. Highlights: Leaving Betanzos: You climb almost immediately after crossing the Mandeo River — a sign of the day ahead! Countryside: Most of the walk is through beautiful Galician farmland, forests, and small hamlets. Small villages: You pass through places like Presedo, Cos, and Vilacoba, which have basic services (some bars and small churches). Scenery: Rolling green hills, eucalyptus woods, and very traditional stone houses and farms. Rest stops: Limited options — We passed about four cafes along the way, but do check as this will depend on the season. Final ascent: The last few kilometers to Hospital de Bruma involve one of the toughest climbs of the day. Arrival at Hospital de Bruma: It's a very small place, only two albergues (a public and private hostel), a wine bar that served food and a few houses. This is where two major trails met, more pilgrims and more demand for beds. You'll need to either be at the public albergue really early (midday) to get a bed or prebook the private one one week in advance! Or find a hotel/motel off the trail. We stayed in a hotel 1.5Km from the route, see link for details, also has a very nice restaurant: https://www.booking.com/hotel/es/cana... We were blessed, securing the last room! Book ahead in Bruma! Historically, it was a medieval hospital that cared for pilgrims — hence the name. Tips: Start early to avoid walking the toughest parts during the midday heat. Make sure you have enough water and food. Take it slow on the climbs — it's more about endurance than speed on this stage. Filmed October 2024. Using an iPhone 13. Edited using iMovie.
