The section of the Camino Inglés from Pontedeume to Betanzos is a scenic and challenging stage of the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela. I personally found this the most challenging day of all; however, the weather conditions consisted of strong winds and heavy rain. On a nice summer's day it would have been much easier. Here’s a concise summary: Stage Overview: Distance: ~20-22.5 km (12.5-14 miles) Estimated Time: 5–6 hours Difficulty: Moderate (some hills and uneven terrain) Waymarking: Well-marked with yellow arrows and scallop shells Route Highlights: Pontedeume: A charming medieval town where the stage begins, known for its historic bridge and connections to the Andrade family. Countryside Paths: The route ascends through rural Galician farmland, forests, and small hamlets—offering a peaceful and authentic experience. Alto de la Cruz: One of the high points of the day with sweeping views of the countryside. Churches and Chapels: You’ll pass several small churches and chapels, such as the Church of San Pantaleón das Viñas. Betanzos: A beautiful and historic town with a well-preserved old quarter, Gothic churches, and traditional Galician architecture. It was once one of the seven provincial capitals of the Kingdom of Galicia. Tips: Bring water and snacks—services are limited between towns. Wear good shoes—the terrain includes forest trails, gravel paths, and some paved roads. Take your time in Betanzos, which is a highlight of the Camino Inglés and worth exploring. Albergue details: Open between 1pm to 10pm. Staffed between these times only. https://www.caminodesantiago.gal/en/r... Filmed October 2024. Using an iPhone 13. Edited using iMovie.
