Knowing the law is not enough. You also need to protect yourself in real life. This video focuses on the practical side of HIV disclosure: when to disclose, when not to, how to have the conversation safely, and how to document disclosure so it cannot later be used against you. We introduce the Be BRAVE framework, partner notification tools, and concrete strategies to create proof if disclosure happens. If you’ve ever worried that a relationship could turn hostile or that someone could later claim you didn’t disclose, this video is for you. These tools exist to reduce harm, not to shame or scare you. Indiana’s HIV non-disclosure law was revised in 2020, but people are still being questioned by police, threatened with charges, and prosecuted because the law and modern HIV science are misunderstood or ignored. Many people do not know when disclosure is legally required, when it is not, or how U=U, PrEP, condoms, and safer sex change legal risk. This course explains Indiana’s HIV “duty to inform” law in plain language. It covers what counts as significant risk today, how HIV criminalization actually plays out in real cases, and why being undetectable does not always stop police or prosecutors from pursuing charges. It also shows how people living with HIV can protect themselves, document disclosure, and avoid self-incrimination. The HIV Disclosure 201 workshop is now available online as a multi-part webinar series. These videos are designed to help people living with HIV understand their rights, reduce the risk of false accusations, and know what to do if law enforcement becomes involved. This series is intended for people living with HIV and their advocates.
