What is A "Reclamation of Soul™"?

A Reclamation of Soul™ is a framework I created around the process of choosing joy as internal liberation. This framework came about after 10 years of community advocacy work and a sudden need to pivot my liberation work after several recurring personal experiences that pushed me into joy. I really believe that for POC's, marginalized people, and immigrants living in the US, our push for equality, liberation, and community must come from joy. Not from shared trauma, not from pain, or retribution. I'm not here to "fight" for anything; I belong simply because I exist and this has been the daily process of rooting firmly into that belief. We are the most normal people in this world and deserve to be treated as such. This video contains a video essay I made at the start of this documented journey. The video essay contains the social and cultural context of what it means to choose joy within marginalized communities and how to center ourselves and our experiences without getting defensive. All with the understanding that we all have more similarities than we have differences and we know very little about each other, therefore have everything to learn from each other. The people united have more power together. For me in this journey, choosing joy has brought up a LOT of grief, anger, and comparison. It's been important for me to document to track my progress for so much of this work is deeply internal. It's interesting, since the 5 months that I released this essay, so much of how I've approached a Reclamation of Soul has shifted. This video essay was so focused on the "other", whereas more of the work that I'll be sharing in the future is far more personal. I'm excited to get more into that. So just a reminder, that anything in this video is an invitation into deeper connection. If you wish to take it as confrontation, that's your choice.
