Mangalore Style Dry Fish Curry Recipe (Clay Pot Special) #DryFishCurry#ಸುಕಿಮಾಸ್ಲಿಕಡಿ | How to Prepare Dried fish Curry. Clean dried fish i.e.removing its head part and rinse thoroughly. It can be soaked in water for 30 minutes to reduce the salt in it. Ingredients: For the Masala (to grind): 1 tsp peppercorns 1/4 tsp fenugreek seeds 1 tbsp coriander seeds 1 tsp cumin seeds A pinch of mustard seeds 1/4 tsp turmeric powder 5–6 dried red chillies 5 garlic cloves 1 medium onion (roughly chopped) Small piece of tamarind 1.5 cups grated coconut (fresh) Little water (for grinding) For the Curry: 1.5 to 2 cups water 3 medium-sized potatoes (peeled and cubed) 1 small onion (sliced) 1 tomato (chopped) (or substitute with bimbli or raw mango slices) Cleaned and soaked dry fish (as needed) Salt to taste Method: 1. Dry Roast: In a pan, dry roast 1 tsp peppercorns and 1/4 tsp fenugreek seeds until aromatic. Let it cool. 2. Grind the Masala: Add the roasted ingredients into a mixer jar. Add coriander seeds, cumin seeds, mustard seeds, turmeric, red chillies, garlic, onion, tamarind, and coconut. Add a little water and grind into a smooth paste. 3. Prepare the Curry Base: In a clay pot (or regular pot), add 1.5–2 cups of water. Add cubed potatoes, sliced onion, and tomato (or raw mango/bimbli). Cook on medium heat until potatoes are soft. 4. Add Dry Fish & Masala: Once the potatoes are cooked, add the soaked and cleaned dry fish. Immediately add the ground masala along with the masala water used to rinse the mixer jar. 5. Simmer: Let the curry come to a gentle boil. Adjust salt carefully (since dry fish is salty). Simmer for another 5 minutes. 6. Serve: Your flavorful Mangalorean Dry Fish Curry is ready!
