Nickel Plate Road #765 [NKP 765]: The CSX CT&V Subdivision Campaign to the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad for Steam In The Valley 2021 On August 31st, 2021 [8/31/2021, 8-31-2021, 8/31/21, 8-31-21], I ventured out to Cleveland OH to witness Nickel Plate Road #765 deadheading/ferrying down to the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. The past couple days prior I had seen NKP 765 was on it's way to Cleveland via NS. On the 29th, they wyed the locomotive in the Fort Wayne area, and then proceeded eastward to Cleveland on the 30th. My original plan was to chase the deadhead/ferry move from Fort Wayne IN-Cleveland OH, and also this portion to the move, but finding out before the ferry move happened, their would be a diesel slapped on the front of 765 all the way to Cleveland. With this disheartening news, I definitely planned on chasing the move to the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. Originally I was under the impression they would tie down in Rockport Yard in Berea OH [Outskirts of Cleveland OH] for the night and continue the next day (the 31st) trekking down the NS Belt Line, CROW Railway's Trackage, & CSX's CT&V Subdivision down to CVSR. Well they actually decided to keep on going and tied down in the NS Campbell Yard in "The Flats" or the suburb of Tremont of Cleveland OH. So first I would first find the 765 parked in the CROW Railway's Yard being prepared for the move as they had moved it up from the NS Campbell Yard for easier access of prepping. Plus it was easier for the arrival of CVSR #2348 to assist in switching operations. To our surprise the diesel pulled the Tool Car, Coal Car, & Auxiliary Car out near the drawbridge and then backed into the parallel CSX Yard. Then NKP 765 would back down to Drawbridge by it's lone-self and then pull into another track in the parallel CSX Yard. The diesel then would pull forward, then back the consist to hook back up with 765. Why they did this weird maneuver, I'm not really sure. I believe maybe it was due to them not wanting to lower the Drawbridge, or the Drawbridge is OOS [Out of Service], or the track beyond the Drawbridge was unusable. Once all hooked up, they would make their grand departure with the cylinders wide open blowing out steam. We would get covered in the steam, which is one of my favorite experiences with a steam locomotive. My chase would then begin along CSX's CT&V Subdivision. I would chase all the way down to the Fitzwater Yard in Brecksville OH. We would be surprised by the CVSR performing switching operations with both of their ALCO/MLW FPA's. Seeing those 2 paired together is quite rare. 765 would wait for them to get out of the way before entering the yard and backing into the Fitzwater Yard Railroad Shops. Now the CVSR FPA Duo would actually run a passenger car up to the wye just North of Independence OH. Now this was a rare mileage move and I believe hasn't been documented before. This made the day even better. YouTube Video Link will be added when uploaded! @BessemerLakeErie902, Ravenna Railfan 4070, and Coal and steel railroad Videos were out for this as well!
