Sustainability often fails under pressure because it lacks the specific “decision language” used for cost and schedule. To persist when trade-offs arise, sustainability must shift from a reporting burden to a leadership advantage. This webinar introduces the Minimum Viable Measurement Layer (MVML), a method to embed sustainability into everyday decisions like design and procurement. We will explore reframing sustainability as decision-ready performance using lightweight indicators. A central focus is the “trade-off meeting,” where MVML structures comparisons between colliding values, such as speed versus emissions. Two case studies—a skills program and an infrastructure-adjacent intervention—will demonstrate how moving measurement from “reporting” to “governance” clarifies choices. Finally, we will show how project leaders who translate sustainability into measurable decisions earn credibility and protect value in a world where impact is no longer optional. Speaker Haikal El Abed is a PMP® and PMI-ACP® certified program leader with over 20 years of experience delivering complex initiatives across Africa, the Middle East, and Europe. Currently serving as a Team Leader with GIZ Ethiopia, he manages TVET and digital transformation programs that connect policy, industry, and training ecosystems. A volunteer member of PMI’s Sustainability Outreach community, Haikal bridges PMI practices with the GPM P5 Standard to embed social and environmental considerations into daily project management. His work focuses on making sustainability a default in decision-making by linking benefits realization to measurable outcomes. At GIZ, his teams apply corporate sustainability guidelines to align operations with the 2030 Agenda. Passionate about turning sustainability into a coachable habit, Haikal combines agile thinking and data-informed decision-making to help leaders plan and scale impact across portfolio.
