A Nashville veteran who was once homeless says a prolonged power outage has left his family feeling like they are "homeless again," despite finally securing stable housing. Fred Forkenbrock lives at Greenview Apartments in South Nashville, where residents say they have been without electricity since Jan. 24. As of Monday, Feb. 3, Forkenbrock says residents were told power may not be restored until Feb. 8. Forkenbrock is a veteran who was formerly homeless. He now lives at the complex with his girlfriend and his two children. He told FOX 17 News the lack of heat has forced him to sleep in his car at times just to stay warm. “I went from homeless, sleeping in my car, to now I’ve gotta sleep in my car again, cause I’m cold and I’m tired,” Forkenbrock said. Forkenbrock says the extended outage has disrupted nearly every part of daily life for his family, including his children’s ability to attend school. “She can’t take a shower. She can’t sleep,” he said. “How are we going to make her go to school?” Residents also questioned why their apartment complex remains without power while nearby businesses and neighborhoods appear to have been restored. “Circle K’s got power. The liquor store’s got power,” Forkenbrock said. “Everybody has power around here, everybody except us.” Nonprofit organizations and community groups have stepped in to help residents at the complex, providing food, hot coffee, blankets, and other necessities. Forkenbrock said that help has been appreciated but cannot replace the stability families need. “It’s not just the people that have money that live in Nashville, and it’s not just the tourists that come to Nashville that make the city money,” he said. “It’s us, the people that make the city. We need help.” https://fox17.com/news/local/formerly... _______________ Follow! Like! Share! Subscribe!
