Because multiple sets of rail lines intersect in downtown Atlanta, the city has essentially been built as if ground level was up in the air. Centennial Olympic Park Drive, Ted Turner Drive, MLK Jr Drive, and Andrew Young International Blvd., all intersect in the air above the tracks. Also, main entrances to State Farm Arena, Mecedes Benz Stadium, CNN Center, and the Georgia World Congress Center, among others, are also well above grade. For years, amid these major destinations and thoroughfares, there has been an under-utilized hole in the cityscape. A vast pit known locally as The Gulch. But that is changing. Centennial Yards is rising from this hole. One of the first buildings completed is the aptly named Phoenix Hotel, and this is where Henry Incorporated comes in. We installed over 11,000 square feet of digital video boards on the hotel, as well as a freestanding 30’ tall double-faced board in front of the neighboring Mitchell apartment building. Most of these boards are serviced from the back side with access from inside the building onto multi-story catwalks concealed inside the signs by our cladding. The largest of these boards face Centennial Olympic Park Drive. Just above street level is a curved board roughly 40’ tall and 200’ long, with another curved board at the roof line roughly 17’ x 125’. On the left side of this elevation is a nearly 100’ tall board that wraps seamlessly around the corner with its two faces 15 and 17 feet wide, respectively. There are two other boards on the east elevation and another facing MLK Jr Drive.
