Hi everyone, the performances are back! This is a recording of the second movement of Mozart's 7th Piano Sonata, written in 1777 in Augsburg for one of his students, a 13-year-old Rosa Cannabich. The 2nd movement in particular is supposed to be a "musical portrait" of her, the only movement in all of Mozart's Piano Sonatas which do this. From the delicate, yet serious melody lines to the running semiquavers so typical of Mozart's style, it is clear that Mozart intended for the piece to be a musical portrait. This recording has been recorded on a Steinway Grand Piano, so you can clearly hear the differences in tone and colour compared to that of the upright piano I have normally used for my other recordings, including the 1st movement of this sonata which I had played some time ago.
