Immersive Installation Art | Milagros | Fabric, Color & Collaboration | Project Atrium Artists Milagros—Felicia Estenza and Joey Felastri—share the ideas, materials, and collaborative process behind their immersive installation created for Project Atrium. Based between New Orleans, Miami, and Florida, Milagros is known for transforming spaces through painting, textiles, mark-making, and large-scale installation. In this video, the artists discuss how collaboration sits at the center of their practice—how working together daily allows ideas to expand, evolve, and push beyond what’s possible individually. The towering atrium space presented a rare opportunity to fully activate vertical scale, encouraging Milagros to explore fabric and textiles more deeply than ever before. Much of the installation is constructed from sewn fabric, forming massive planes that psychologically and physically fill the space. Bright neon colors advance toward the viewer while a blue backdrop recedes, amplifying depth, movement, and contrast. Patterns developed over more than a decade suggest motion, while fans introduce real physical movement—transforming the space into a living, shifting environment. The installation also features soft, playful plush forms inspired by the artists’ ongoing CRUD Buddies project—creatures originally made from Styrofoam collected from the Mississippi River. These “cuddle buds” offer a joyful entry point into deeper conversations about pollution, environmental impact, and the climate crisis, balancing heavy subject matter with warmth and accessibility. Designed as a fully immersive environment, the installation invites viewers to physically enter the work—recalling childhood blanket forts and safe spaces. The artists intentionally created a space where visitors can feel protected, unobserved, and free to reflect or express themselves without judgment. By removing vulnerability, the work encourages vulnerability. For Milagros, the entire atrium becomes a canvas—each element responding to the others, just as shapes and colors interact within their paintings. Their goal is to create environments where people feel a sense of ownership, belonging, and comfort—spaces that are inclusive, welcoming, and deeply human. 🎨 In this video, you’ll explore: Collaborative installation art practices Using fabric and textiles at architectural scale Color, pattern, and physical movement in space Creating immersive and accessible art environments Environmental themes through playful forms Painting principles applied to installation art Designing spaces for comfort, safety, and belonging 🔔 Subscribe for more artist interviews, behind-the-scenes installation videos, and stories about process-driven contemporary art. #InstallationArt #ImmersiveArt #Milagros #TextileArt #CollaborativeArt #ContemporaryArtists #ProjectAtrium #EnvironmentalArt #PublicArt #ArtInstallation #CreativeProcess #AccessibleArt
