On this trip, we driving Along the Yellow River Highway in Shaanxi, China. We drive onto the road at Wubu, Shaanxi, and from there it's almost glued to the cliff above the river—steep rock on one side, the churning Yellow River on the other. The route twists, rises, and falls with hardly any traffic, making for an unforgettable drive. Along the way we passed landmarks like Erqi Rapids and Guai-shang Ferry, and drifted through villages alive with local color. It's the rainy season, so fresh landslides kept showing up; not long after we entered Jia County we ran into a road-closure crew. That forced us to cut the day short in Liujiaping Village, Xizhen.
