The Beverly Hillbillies – The Clampetts Strike Oil (1962) | Classic TV Comedy Episode 1 HD Oil, Millions & Beverly Hills | The Beverly Hillbillies Episode 1 – Classic Comedy Series Classic TV Comedy 1962 | Full Episode HD | The Beverly Hillbillies – The Clampetts Strike Oil The Beverly Hillbillies (1962) Episode 1 — The Clampetts Strike Oil is the pilot that launched one of the most successful sitcoms in television history, written and directed by Paul Henning and Ralph Levy respectively, and first broadcast on CBS on September 26, 1962. Within weeks it was the number-one show in America. Jed Clampett is a decent, quietly wise mountain man living a simple life in the Ozarks with his daughter Elly May, his mother-in-law Granny, and his cousin Pearl's son Jethro as driver. When an oil company representative arrives to confirm that Jed's swamp sits on top of a fortune — $25 million worth of crude — Jed is the last person in the county to understand what that means. It takes Cousin Pearl to explain it, and she wastes no time telling him exactly where a millionaire ought to live: Beverly Hills, California. The Clampetts load everything they own onto their flatbed truck, add Duke the dog on top, and head west. On arrival, they mistake their 35-room mansion for a prison, their banker Milburn Drysdale for a warden, and end up briefly in jail before Drysdale rescues them. The comedy of American class, money, and manners begins here — and it never really stopped. ⭐ Episode Info Series: The Beverly Hillbillies Episode: The Clampetts Strike Oil Season 1, Episode 1 Air Date: September 26, 1962 Director: Ralph Levy Writer: Paul Henning Stars: Buddy Ebsen, Irene Ryan, Donna Douglas, Max Baer Jr., Bea Benaderet, Raymond Bailey, Nancy Kulp Production: Filmways Television Network: CBS Runtime: 21 minutes Country: United States Language: English Version: Full Episode HD ✨ Why you'll enjoy this episode 🎬 The pilot that knocked Lucille Ball off the number-one spot — one of the most successful sitcom launches in television history 🎬 Buddy Ebsen's Jed Clampett is one of the great comedy-drama performances of 1960s American television: gentle, wise, and completely unimpressed by wealth 🎬 The Clampetts mistake their Beverly Hills mansion for a prison — one of the funniest first impressions in sitcom history 🎬 Bea Benaderet as Cousin Pearl and Raymond Bailey as the money-obsessed Drysdale — two supporting performances that set the comic tone for nine seasons 🎬 Created, written, and produced by Paul Henning — the man who built CBS's entire rural comedy dynasty including Petticoat Junction and Green Acres 📌 Watch more classic TV on Switch International Classics Subscribe for full episodes of legendary classic series and timeless Hollywood entertainment.
