In this video, CHARMIE demonstrates its advanced ability to pick and place a wide range of household objects with different shapes, sizes, and weights. From cutlery and tableware to fruits, drinks, and even delicate or heavy items like a small dice or a wine bottle, CHARMIE handles them all with precision. The robot manipulates nine different objects: a 7up can, banana, cup, dice, fork, mustard bottle, plate, strawberry, and wine bottle. Using its head camera to locate each object, CHARMIE repositions itself with its omnidirectional base, aligns its gripper, picks up the object, and carries it safely to the correct placement location. The video includes CHARMIE’s head camera and gripper camera views, as well as object detection visualizations, allowing you to see exactly how the robot perceives and manipulates the environment. It picks objects from different types of furniture and places them on various surfaces, showing a flexible and robust manipulation pipeline. This improved pick-and-place capability greatly increases CHARMIE’s autonomy in household tasks, bringing it closer to assisting with real everyday environments.
