Pour water, let it soak briefly, then squeeze out all the water and set it aside. Next, prepare the special roasted gram powder. Grind 2 tbsp roasted gram, 5 garlic cloves (skin on), a few curry leaves, and 3 red chilies into a fine powder. Set it aside. In a wide kadai, heat 2 tbsp oil. Add 1 tsp urad dal, 2 tsp chana dal, ¼ cup peanuts, 1 tsp cumin, and 1 tsp mustard seeds. Roast until aromatic. Toss in 2 finely chopped onions, 2 chopped green chilies, and curry leaves. Sauté for 3 minutes. Add 2 chopped tomatoes, 1 tsp salt, ½ tsp turmeric, and the roasted gram powder. Mix well, then add the puffed rice. Stir gently on low flame to coat it with the masala.
