Rooted P5: Rooted in Community Andy Imbimbo | Lead Pastor Sunday February, 1 2026 Main Text: Acts 2:42–47 #jesus #God #christian #christianity #church #sermon #faith #scripture #Bible #njchurch #unionnjchurch #Crossroads Join us Sunday morning LIVE @ 9AM & 11 AM If you would like to give to our church, visit https://ccfou.churchcenter.com/giving Message Overview Rooted is a series about spiritual formation, learning how to build a deep, lasting relationship with Jesus. Community is not a social club, a Sunday routine, or optional for the Christian life. It is God’s design for spiritual growth. In Acts 2:42–47, the early church shows us that community is devotion, shared life, shared worship, and shared mission. They didn’t attend church, they became the church, and God used their unity to transform lives daily. Community Requires Devotion The early believers “devoted themselves.” Community doesn’t happen by accident. It requires commitment, consistency, and choosing connection even when it’s inconvenient. The early church didn’t treat church as a hobby, they built their lives around it. Truth: You don’t grow in community by showing up occasionally, but by showing up intentionally. Community Is Formed Around the Word They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching. Their unity was rooted in truth, not preferences or personalities. Doctrine and theology shaped how they lived, loved, and understood God’s calling. Truth: Community flourishes when God’s Word is the foundation. Community Shares Life Together “Koinonia” means shared life, partnership, and mutual commitment. The early church took communion together, shared meals, prayed in homes, and cared for one another like family. Their relationships were built around Jesus and expressed through real hospitality and presence. Truth: Real community doesn’t happen in rows, it happens in homes. Community Meets Needs Sacrificially The believers opened their homes, shared resources, and even sold possessions to meet urgent needs. This wasn’t forced; it was Spirit-led generosity. Their compassion kept the church strong and unified. Truth: Community grows when we carry each other’s burdens. Community Is a Witness to the World Their love, unity, and generosity drew people to Christ daily. Their relationships were their greatest testimony. The world watched how they treated each other and saw the truth of the Gospel lived out publicly. Truth: The way we love one another is the most powerful form of evangelism. This Week’s Challenge Choose one step to practice community intentionally this week: • Join a community group or reconnect with one. • Share a meal with someone in the church. • Pray with someone instead of just promising to pray. • Look for a practical need you can meet. • Invite someone new into your circle. Community is not a performance, it’s a family. You don’t have to walk alone anymore.
