PD 14 – Realizing the Promise of Gene Therapy: Exploring Health System Challenges

With advancements in technology and science, we are at the cusp of scientific innovation with genetic medicine. The scientific community has made incredible advances in the development of new innovative therapies, such as gene therapies, with almost 17 United States & European Union approvals expected this year alone. While gene therapy represents a radical shift in our approach to disease treatment, this novel approach poses new challenges for health systems. A roundtable was convened last year with representatives across stakeholders to learn about advances in gene therapy and discuss current health system barriers and potential solutions to gene therapy care delivery and access. This panel will provide an opportunity to share inputs from the roundtable and offer insights into how countries are preparing their health systems for these new innovations.
