RecognizeGood Volunteer Legends - Gerard Van de Werken

For 25 years, Gerard Van de Werken has volunteered with Austin Habitat for Humanity and has assisted in building 50 houses to date for members of our community while empowering others to give back as well. Gerard Van de Werken started his volunteer work with Austin Habitat for Humanity (AHFH) nearly 25 years ago now and he’s still moving at full speed building houses for members of our community who may otherwise never have the chance to be a homeowner. As a retired architect, Gerard has put his skills to use leading the AHFH Methodist Builds for nearly 25 years. He supervises build sites, directs other volunteers, and even brings his own congregation and many other Methodist church groups together to support homebuilding through sponsorship and on-site volunteer work. Gerard has led numerous community-based builds- in fact, his work and leadership have contributed to the making of 50 affordable homes!
