As the day progressed on September 19th of 1863, fighting would shift southward. Sensing things were escalating, Gen George Thomas sent in fresh Union troops under Brigadier General Absalom Baird. These fresh troops quickly helped turn the tide in favor of the Union. Moments later, fresh Confederate Infantry takes the field and slams right into the Union infantry.
