Ronnie Munro & His Orchestra – On the Riviera, Fox-Trot (L.Wolfe-Gilbert – Paul van Loan, Fred Rich) with Vocal chorus, Parlophone 1926 (UK) NOTE: Ronnie MUNRO (b. 1897 in London, UK – d. In 1989). British dance bandleader, actor, and composer, active from the mid-1920s to the 1940s. He recorded under his own name, as well as under the pseudonyms The Roof Garden Orchestra, The Merton Orchestra, Parlophone Syncopaters, and West End Players. Munro was also busy writing arrangements for several leading West End dance bands, such as Lew Stone, Parcival Mackay, Henry Hall, Bert Ambrose. In 1926, Ronnie Munro's orchestra signed with London-based Parlophone Records to release a series of popular dance records. "On the Riviera" is one of those brilliant sides that paved the way for his appointment as director of dance music at the label—a position he held for some years, beginning a 13-year association with EMI (Munro became musical director of HMV's house orchestra). In 1940, he began conducting the BBC Scottish Variety Orchestra. He appeared in several feature films: "Laugh It Off" (1940), "Meet the Navy" (1946), and "Empire of the Sun" (1987).
