Tabacón Hot Springs

I visited Tabacón Thermal Resort and Spa in La Fortuna, Costa Rica on June 30, 2021. This is a resort built around a natural hot springs. Essentially, Arenal Volcano heats up the rivers, so the entire La Fortuna area has many hot springs. Tabacón has taken the natural hot springs river and slightly altered the landscape to make it more accessible. Of course the resort added beautiful landscaping, but they also added footbridges, paths, railings, and lighting. However, the river bottom remains the existing river rocks, so walking in the rivers is the same as walking in any rocky river. The stones are smooth but very slippery and uneven, and while the water is clear, the stones are hard to visualize because they are black. I wore water shoes and still found it challenging to move about while in the river. It can be done, though! I was able to climb several sections of the various waterfalls without getting injured (always a bonus to not get injured). The day spa was really nice. Photography is not permitted inside the spa area so it will not be featured in this video. We each had our own cabanas which were concealed behind “walls” of foliage and palms. My spa services were “Corporal Deluxe” (lemongrass wrap and cocoa exfoliation; 75 minutes), followed by a Swedish massage (50 minutes). I booked a full day package at the hot springs, which included lunch and dinner.
