Art Loeb Trail Thru Hike: May 13-16, 2021 Hikers: Joe Tracy, Michael Collett, Craig Rebich and myself First day started at Daniel Boone Boy Scout Camp and hiked uphill in the Shining Rock Wilderness to first campsite at Deep Gap at the bottom of Cold Mountain. Second day hiked over Tennent Mountain and camped on Black Balsom Knob. Great campsite with amazing views. Got hailed on part of the day. Third day hiked across Blue Ridge Pkwy, over Pilot Mountain and camped at a little spot on the ALT. Arrived at camp at dark due to campsites being full since a Saturday. Heard an owl, coyotes and a whippoorwill. Last day hiked to car at Davidson River Campground in Pisgah NF outside of Brevard, NC. A fun hike with great friends! Terrain was rugged and the Art Loeb Trail lived up to the hype. We went the easy direction, btw. At least that is what every hiker to opposite direction told us. Sheesh! Beers and pizza at Oscar Blues Brewery in Brevard, NC before heading home. Happy hiking!
