Ohangwena Governor Kadiva Hamutumwa, flanked by regional leaders, visited the homestead of the late war veteran Kanana Hishoono in Onambutu Village to console his bereaved family. The delegation extended its heartfelt condolences and honoured Hishoono's steadfast role in Namibia's liberation struggle and the attainment of the country's freedom. Governor Hamutumwa highlighted Hishoono's lifelong dedication to the liberation cause and his pivotal contributions to the Swapo Party. She portrayed him as a principal leader, mentor, and devoted patriot whose legacy of sacrifice, guidance, and leadership will remain an inspiration for future generations. "We are here to offer our condolences and assure you that, as a region and a nation, we stand with you during this difficult period of mourning," Hamutumwa said. "We all know the important role played by the late Hishoono during the liberation struggle and after Namibia's independence. As a child of the liberation struggle, I feel we have lost a father. Under his guidance – along with many others – we navigated the struggle, and even after returning from exile, he continued to offer valuable advice and leadership to the ruling party and government." Ohangwena Swapo Party Coordinator Joshua Phillemon echoed the sentiments, describing Hishoono as a custodian of Namibian history and a revered elder who devoted time to educating communities on the nation's journey before and after independence. "Our hero has fallen, but the work he has done will remain in the history of Namibia and Africa at large," Phillemon stated. "The role he played during the liberation struggle paved the way for Namibia's independence, which gave us the peace we enjoy today. He narrated Namibia's history to many people, including the young ones who are the future of this country." #NBCNews #nbcdigitalnews #nbcDSTV282 #nbcGOtv20 #nbcPlusApp
