Zinc Oxide tape is normally a white or brown rigid tape made out of cotton or rayon, also known as athletic tape. The white cotton tapes are easier to tear while the rayon tapes are generally brown, stronger and are used for immobilising the large joints e.g. shoulder taping, ankle taping and patellofemoral taping. These tapes are designed for use in sports medicine to immobilise joints and provide support by helping to attach an injured part of the body to a splint. Examples of zinc oxide tapes are Vivo S Tape, Vivo X Tape, Vivo Tape, Vivotape P,Strappal, Strappal Sport, Mueller M Tape and Leukotape P. Leukotape P Combi packs contain a roll of Leukotape P and a roll of Hypafix. Elastic Adhesive Bandage or EAB is widely used in sports medicine to help support joints by using taping methods that require a degree of stretch in the sports tape. EAB is sometimes known as lineout tape as it is used by rugby players to wrap around their thighs to provide additional grip when they are being lifted to catch the ball during lineouts. EAB's will either have a cut/smooth edge or a ribbon edge to allow the tape to stick to itself better.Examples of EAB's are Vivolastic, Vivo Sports Wrap, Vivoplast, Leukoband Club and Tensoplast (formerly known as Elastoplast). Tearable Elastic Adhesive Bandages (Tearable EAB's) are generally used when normal EAB's are considered to heavy or thick. They are also an excellent, easy to use bandage to help with first aid situations to secure bandages rapidly. Tearable EAB's are also used for line out tape for rugby players who may prefer them to the other EAB's. Examples of tearable EAB's are Vivolight, Mueller Tear Light Tape and Lightplast Pro. Cohesive Bandages are unique in that they stick to themselves but not the skin or hairs! They offer great compression and are easily torn making them ideal for all first aid kits. Ideal for quickly wrapping around ice packs to hold them in place or around head to stop bleeding. Examples of cohesive bandages are Vivorip, Powerflex, Mueller M Lastic, Coban and Tensoplus. Mueller Underwrap is made by Mueller and is designed to protect the skin in athletic taping methods. Kinesiology tape or Kinesio tape -- the kinesiology taping method was first created in the 70's by Dr Kenzo Kase in an attempt to optimise treatment of injuries and chronic illnesses.
